Driving School Volunteer Mentor Program

For participants

We understand that getting your hours can be difficult if you do not know anyone who has the time or the required licence to help you. We also know how important it is to practice as much as you can! That’s why we have a free volunteer mentor program to support you in completing your required driving hours.
 
To join, you must: 
  • be from a refugee or asylum seeker background
  • have completed 10 hours of driving lessons with an Accredited Driving Instructor
  • have finished the first 10 competencies in your logbook
  • not have regular access to someone who can supervise your driving practice
  • attend and pass a free English-for-Driving 2-hour workshop
 
If you would like to sign up to attend the next English-for-Driving workshop, email bookings@allaradrives.com.au. You will be able to join the volunteer mentor program after completing the workshop. 

For volunteers

Help someone gain the skills and confidence to get their driver’s licence and access work, education, and independence.
 
We are always looking for volunteers to support participants in our mentor driving program. 
 
In this role, you will: 
  • work 1-1 with your mentee to practice driving in one-hour long sessions
  • support your mentee to build confidence in a calm and respectful way
  • encourage safe driving practices and reinforce road rules
  • track supervised driving hours in the learner’s logbook
 
We’re looking for patient and reliable volunteers who are confident drivers and enjoy supporting others. Ideally you will have 1-2 hours free a week. A valid driver’s licence and Working With Vulnerable People card is required.
 
No prior mentoring experience is required and all training, resources, and ongoing support are provided. To apply, email bookings@allaradrives.com.au and we’ll guide you through the next steps.
